Beaches in Armação de Pêra and general experience in the area

Hi all,

Today I am going to show you the beaches we visited in the Armação de Pêra area. Doing the hiking trails, we saw a lot of beaches and here are the ones that we visited in more detail.

Praia do Vale do Olival

This is where our accommodation was. It was 5km of uninterrupted beach, but each part had a name. On our side it is called Praia do Vale do Olival. In the different parts of those 5km it has different names: one part is Armação de Pêra and when passing a kind of river, it is called Praia dos Salgados.

We would go down the corner that is right next to the stone arch.

It’s great because you can have a super long run or walk and in low season, you are practically alone. For Diego it was also perfect to be able to do his swimming training; Even though I had a wetsuit, I didn’t go swimming for that long because It was still very cold for me. Also, my wetsuit is for warmer water.

So, it is a very comfortable beach for sports, and you can even surf if there are waves.

Praia das Fontainhas

We found this beach halfway on the first hike we did to Praia da Marinha. In the Armação de Pêra area, the most popular beaches have stairs to go down, but this one is rarely visited. We went down a stone path and it was completely alone. A marvel.

Praia dos Beijinhos

When we went to Algarve, we organized ourselves to do a hike on Saturdays and to relax on Sundays. We visited it on a weekend, and it is the one that was next to our beach. So, in less than 10 minutes walking, we were already there.

We arrived around 10 in the morning and there were already people, so I went another day very early to take the photos of the beach alone. I would say that it is the one I liked the least because it has a lot of algae, and it feels dirty. In addition, it is small and no matter how few people there are, it is already crowded.

Praia Nova

This is the beach that is right next to the famous Armação de Pêra hermitage. When we did the first hike through this area, I told Diego that I wanted to go back. One Thursday we went there very early.

That day there was a sunbath, and the water was turquoise that looked like Photoshop. Normally the water in that area is always rough, but that day it was crystal clear. I went in for a while even though the water was freezing. This was my favorite beach.

Praia Marinha

It is one of the most famous; in fact, there is a parking lot next to it. We saw it twice, but we did not go down.

Praia da Galé

This we visited twice: once with horrible weather and high tide, the second with a beautiful day and low tide. Going and coming back took us a little over two hours. There is always a surf academy on that beach.

I leave the map for you to see the location of each beach:

The Armação de Pêra area is not bad at all, but it is the typical ugly town that you can find in the south of Spain with the massive buildings made at once and without any kind of aesthetics. Also, this area looked dead, which for us was great; in fact, we lost the habit of wearing masks after spending a month there alone.

Our stay there wasn’t good at all due to the humidity conditions of the accommodation, but great because of the location we had since in a minute we were on a 5-kilometer beach.

One very important thing to keep in mind is that all the accommodations in southern Portugal are unprepared for the cold. Therefore, if you visit in low season, you will have to have the heating on all day.
