Hi there,
Today I was going to do a travel post, but since I’m in the mood of nostalgia and rewatching the soap operas that I liked the most when I was little, I decided to write about this topic.
From Venezuela, the two soap operas that I liked the most were Angélica Pecado and La Mujer de Judas.
Angélica Pecado was the first horror soap opera, and it was super famous. There was a murderer who with the mask of a black bird was killing all the heirs of a fortune. In addition, the 7 deadly sins were represented in the characters.
La Mujer de Judas is from the same director as the previous one and came out after the great success that Angélica Pecado had. Here, the murderer, dressed in a bloody wedding dress and a skull mask, was killing all those who had been guilty of the misfortune that had happened to him many years ago. The supernatural part enters because it is not known if this murderer is a person or a ghost and, in addition, the main character sees spirits that give her clues about the murderer.
At the time I watched it, I was scared. In addition, it was the first leading role of Juan Carlos García, who had played secondary in Angélica Pecado. I was head over heels in love with that guy. Imagine the motivation to watch it: the terror that was my favorite genre and my platonic childhood love.
My mom and I didn’t miss an episode.

La invasora came later and starred Juan Carlos García. That’s why I watched it. It was the story of a 17-year-old girl whose stepfather made videos of her when she was showering and then put them on the internet, so the whole issue of child prostitution, laws, corruption, etc. was touched upon. In addition, it was recorded mostly in La Guaira and it showed a little how people had been left after the tragedy of 1999.

From Venezuela I jump to Brazil. Brazilian soap operas have also always been very successful worldwide. The ones I liked the most were Vamp and El Clon.
Vamp is very old, from 1991. I’m starting to watch it again on YouTube and I realize how old it is. It is a vampire story, in which a girl who wanted to be famous gave her soul to The Count in exchange for fame and was turned. To get rid of the curse, she must kill the Count with a cross that is at the bottom of the sea in Bahía dos Anjos.

El Clon is a soap opera from 2010 and in Venezuela they broadcasted it several times on different channels. It is the story of Jade, a girl who, while living in Brazil, her mother dies and must go to Morocco to live with her uncle and adapt to the Islamic religion. There she falls in love with a Brazilian and it is an impossible love. There is a lot of suffering and a lot of religion, but the story is beautiful. We also have the story of a clon of the protagonist who will get entangled in Jade’s path. Now that I’m watching it again, I’m very shocked by the age differences of the couples since the man is always about 20 years older than the woman.

From Colombia, the one I remember the most is Pasión de gavilanes because the main characters were hot. This is the story of 3 brothers who seek to avenge the death of their sister and get involved as workers in the farm of the family they want to take revenge on, but they fall in love with the sisters of the family. This soap opera was super famous because the three brothers always were doing hard work in the fields, sweaty and shirtless.

Finally, of Mexican soap operas, the ones I remember the most are those of Thalia.
María Mercedes, Marimar and María la del Barrio were broadcasted one after the other in 1992, 1994 and 1995 respectively. Always stories in which the main character was the poor girl who spent the entire story suffering and crying, and, in the end, she would be with the love of her life (a handsome and rich man).
I think the most famous was María la del Barrio for the villain Soraya, who I think has been one of the best in history and we still see memes of her.
